Channel letters are an exceptionally effective visual technology. They utilize several tactics to generate impressions. Here are some reasons why, and some ways to, use channel letters for your business or organization.
Channel letters are, as the name suggests, signs that are made up of individual letters. Rather than printing signs on to a two-dimensional surface or sign panel, you can create messages with three-dimensional letters. These letters can be individually crafted and arranged to spell out anything you want. Typically, channel letters are used to identify businesses by installing them on the front façade of a building, or possibly even a monument sign. Because channel letters are bulky, it’s rare to use them to spell out anything longer than a business name, but you could do a slogan if you have the space.
Because they are individually-crafted, three-dimensional letters, you can convey more personality with a channel letter sign than a standard two-dimensional sign. The font you choose can say a lot about your business. Some fonts are traditional and communicate professionalism and reliability while others are more unorthodox and convey playfulness or creativity. Being bulky three-dimensional letters, your choice of font will have an even greater effect with channel letters. The color and materials you choose can also have an impact.
Channel letters have one other big advantage we’ve kept secret so far. They’re illuminated. Lighted signs generate more impressions than non-lighted signs. For one, their brightness allows them to outcompete other visual stimuli in the immediate area. Furthermore, lighted signs have a greater range of visibility and can be seen from further away. Lastly, because they are illuminated, channel letters can be seen at night, in the rain, in the snow, and in the fog. If you want channel letters but don’t see the need to illuminate them, then you should get dimensional letters.
As mentioned above, channel letters are most frequently used on the front facades of buildings to identify and promote the business therein. They are effective for restaurants, retail stores, bars, clubs, office buildings, and more. You can also use channel letters to brand an outdoor area and create an atmosphere, perhaps on an outdoor restaurant or bar patio. Make sure that there are no trees or other obstructions in front of your channel letters.
